From The Desk Of The Pastor

“A New Thing

For those who have not read my 2009 Stewardship report, our theme for 2010 is Experiencing the Power of Spiritual Renaissance. A renaissance represents a “new birth” a “renewal” or a “new beginning”. It can be a new perspective on an old concept. Spiritual renaissance begins when God reveals to people that He is unveiling hidden mysteries of the kingdom to His people.

In Isaiah 43, the Lord says to Israel: “forget about the former things” because He was about to unleash a “new thing” for them to behold. It wasn’t that the former things of old weren’t significant in the history of the nation; for quite the contrary was true. But instead of dwelling to their detriment on the manifestations of God’s provisions and powers demonstrated in the past, the people needed to realize that God is the One who renews and gives birth to a fresh anointing.

The Book of Matthew

The Book of Matthew is the first (in canonical order) book of the New Testament and was written by one of Jesus’ disciples, Matthew who is also known as Levi (tax collector).  The gospel of Mark which was written earlier did not include any of the teachings of Jesus, so Matthew (written around 80 AD) attempted to remedy that challenge. Moreover, Matthew’s gospel account was written to Jewish Christians with the purpose of convincing this audience that Jesus was the Messiah whom the Old Testament prophets had written and spoken about.
